I know how much work goes into writing a book because I’m a writer myself. I’ve published four books of poetry and am currently working on a historical novel. I understand the excitement of a new idea, the challenges of a difficult draft, and the vulnerability of sharing your work with someone else.
That experience shapes the way I work with authors. I offer honest, constructive feedback while respecting the vision and voice behind every manuscript. My job isn’t to make your book sound like mine; it’s to help you make it the strongest version of yours.
Nearly Two Decades of Professional Editing Experience
Over the course of my editing career, I’ve worked with writers across a wide range of genres, including fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, poetry, and screenwriting. My specialties are historical fiction, memoir, and nonfiction, where I particularly enjoy helping authors bring complex stories and ideas together into a cohesive, engaging manuscript.
From 2016 to 2018, I served as editor of Wake Living magazine, editing and writing up to six articles for each quarterly issue. That experience strengthened my ability to work with different voices, manage detailed editorial projects, and communicate clearly with writers.
I’ve also been a member of the North Carolina Writers’ Network for twenty years and served on its Board for 10 years. My involvement in the writing community reflects my longstanding commitment to supporting authors and the craft of writing.
What Makes My Editing Different?
One of my greatest strengths is finding what isn’t there.
I have an eye for the plot holes, missing information, logic problems, and inconsistencies that can be difficult for an author to recognize after spending months or years with a manuscript. I also pay close attention to the smaller details, such as punctuation, capitalization, hyphens, and missing words that help make writing polished and professional.
